Photofacial Before and After

How does a photofacial work?

Photofacial treatments are ideal for reversing sun damage, spots, and hyperpigmentation of the skin. Using both Broadband Light (BBL) and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, a photofacial delivers heat to the dermis, targeting the pigment that sits under the skin. Breaking up all those clusters of pigmented cells, the pigment begins to exit the skin over the next 4 to 5 weeks- unveiling a smooth, spot-free complexion.

 Photofacial FAQs

  • You can enjoy a photofacial at all 3 EA clinics in Edmonton, St. Albert and Kelowna!

  • As long as you are wearing sunscreen, staying out of the sun, and taking care of your skin, your photofacial results typically last 6-12 months. Your results are dependent on your lifestyle choices!

  • Photofacials are one of the safest, light-based treatments available - with little or no discomfort. The light pulses feel similar to a light "snap" from a rubber band and there have been few reported long-term side effects. Any post-treatment side effects dissipate within a few hours to a week and include redness, minor swelling or inflammation.

  • It is best to stay out of direct sunlight and refrain from using tanning beds or any medications that make you more sensitive to light. During your initial consultation, a clinical aesthetician will advise you on how to best prepare for the procedure.

  • Results can be seen from a few hours to a day post-treatment. Improvements will gradually become more noticeable but, your experience may differ depending on your skin type and the condition(s) you are treating.

  • Generally, 3-5 sessions are required to achieve your best results. The number of treatments depends on the severity of your problem area and its location. A clinical aesthetician will be able to assess the number of treatments required to achieve your desired results.

  • Since photofacials are a heat-based treatment, one benefit can include pore tightening.

  • Depending on the condition of the skin, you may experience temporary darkening of the treated areas or pinpoint bruising if you have a lot of vascularity - typically lasting 3-5 days.

  • Discomfort is minimized through the use of topical numbing agents. This ensures any discomfort experience is as minimal as possible.
