What is PRP?

What is PRP you ask? If you don’t know, then you must keep reading! PRP stands for “Platelet Rich Plasma”. Although PRP is trending BIG right now among celebs and top physician offices around the world, it actually isn’t all that new. Platelet Rich Plasma injections have been around for decades, helping athletes to heal sports-related injuries, and now, the benefits of PRP are increasingly being used in the beauty industry. What is Platelet Rich Plasma? It is a concentrated formula of your bodies plasma from your own blood, that is rich in growth factors. This cellular concoction of super cells have influential mega powers in repairing the body and fighting the signs of gravity and aging. It is essentially, stem cell therapy. How freaking cool is that!? Once the PRP formula is ready, it is then drawn up into a syringe and injected back into problem areas you are wanting to see improvement.

How it works?

After your blood is drawn, it is put through a centrifuge machine that spins it,  separates the platelets from the red blood cells, and isolates the growth factors from the patients blood. Once this is done a few times, the result is a yellowy clear substance of protein rich plasma that is 4 to 10 times the normal level of what you would naturally find in your body. It is then drawn up into a syringe and injected back into the problem area. Lets take the face for example, PRP is able to boost the skin’s ability to rejuvenate. Once injected into the skin,  growth factors in the Platelet Rich Plasma activate potent stem cells. This process will call upon new collagen, new fatty tissue, and new blood vessels to start power housing away and bring youth back into your skin, and even into your love life as well (more on “O-shot” and “P-shot” to come!).

The Results

Immediately after the injection, a patient will experience some swelling and bruising, but that will only last a few days at most. Gradually the PRP will encourage your body to use its own processes of healing, by thickening the collagen and elastin in the skin, and drastically improving the capillary and lymphatic systems in the areas that are needing the extra help. The results are nothing short of amazing! After 4 to 8 weeks, your skin will be radiating that natural glow, overall supple and dewy complexion, plus giving you that overall fresher look, without putting anything foreign into your body. Because of this, PRP therapy is perfect for patients who aren’t completely comfortable with hyaluronic fillers,  or for those who have had adverse reactions or allergies to filler.
