Electrocautery
Effortlessly remove lumps, bumps, and moles!
Although harmless, if you struggle with skin tags or moles, then you are familiar with how annoying and disruptive they can be. Interfering with tasks like shaving, or just plain getting in the way of your confidence, they don’t stand a chance against electrocautery!
What is electrocautery?
Electrocautery is an effective medical technology used to remove benign (non-cancerous) skin growths. The procedure involves using a light electrical current to heat up the skin, in order to achieve tissue destruction in a very narrow and targeted location.
A needle, or blade which is heated by electricity, is applied to the treated area, killing the skin cells and cleanly cutting through tissue. Benefits of electrocautery include:
Non-surgical procedure
No downtime required
Fast procedure time
Permanent results
What to Expect on Your First Visit
Your electrocautery treatment for skin tags and moles will depend on your individual assessment with one of our experts. Together during your consultation, our skin expert and you will go through your goals and come up with a plan to achieve them.
A typical electrocautery appointment begins first with a thorough cleansing of the treatment area(s). Followed by an application of topical numbing, our team works to ensure any potential for discomfort is as minimal as possible. Then, using our electrocautery tool, any undesired skin tags and moles are removed - it’s that simple!
Electrocautery FAQs
-
Electrocautery is available at all three of our locations, in Edmonton, Kelowna and St. Albert.
-
Any discomfort is minimal and short-lived. We also have many tools to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible, such as topical or injected numbing.
-
Typically, it takes about two weeks for the skin to heal and for the skin tag to fall off. This process may be longer if the treated area is larger.
-
Healing usually takes place within two to four weeks. If a large area of tissue has been treated, healing may take longer.
-
Once removed, skin tags do not grow back. If a skin tag develops in the same area after removal, this may mean you are prone to skin tags in that area.
-
While not always necessary, we find it best to consult our medical professional first to assess the treatment area.
-
Depending on the size of the area, multiple treatments may be required to ensure optimal results.
