What to Expect

Every injectable journey begins with an EA Beauty Consultation! Whether enjoyed at our Edmonton, St. Albert or Kelowna clinic, the EA Beauty Consultation is a complimentary appointment with an expert injector where you can ask questions, discuss your beauty goals, and come up with a personalized treatment plan! Following this, a brief patient assessment is done with a medical professional to ensure you’re cleared to receive injectables.

During your PRP appointment, a nurse or physician will perform a quick blood draw. After the blood draw, your injector will spin the blood in a centrifuge, a device that extracts your liquid gold, known as PRP! Once this process has been completed, the nurse/physician will make a total of two injection sites (one under each eye) and administer the PRP using a cannula, which is a blunt end instrument that fans out the PRP. If you are concerned about pain, feel free to speak with your injector, as they can offer methods to ensure that you’re comfortable!

I had an exceptional experience with Nurses Erika, Kaitlyn and Simonne. I had multiple PRP treatments and each time was professional, well done and friendly service throughout. Highly recommend!

Under-Eye PRP FAQs

  • You can enjoy under-eye PRP at all three External Affairs locations - Edmonton, St. Albert and Kelowna!

  • Depending on what you are treating with PRP, you may start to notice an improvement in the under-eye darkness and skin texture after about 28 days.

We recommend starting with at least 3 treatments of PRP with a month in between each session. Following this, your injector may advise you to continue with occasional maintenance sessions.

    • Those with discoloration under the eyes

    • Those with thin/crepey skin under the eyes

    • Anyone seeking an overall fresher and smoother facial texture

  • The PRP will be injected to each under-eye via a cannula, which is a blunt end instrument, and is fairly painless. In order to insert the cannula, two small injection sites (one under each eye) need to be made by a small needle. If you’re nervous about pain, please speak to your injector, as we have numbing methods, such as lidocaine that can be used at the injection sites.

Although everyone’s pain tolerance is different, we do our best to make the experience as smooth as possible!

  • As the platelet rich plasma (PRP) is injected into the under-eye and has a fluid like consistency, you can expect to have puffy under eyes for up to 3-5 days while your body absorbs the platelets and forms collagen.

    • Stopping the use of anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil, Motrin Aleve, and Aspirin 4 days before treatments. These products can increase the risk of bruising.

    • Avoiding fish oils and blood thinning supplements, (this includes drinking alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes) 4 days before treatments. This can also lead to an increased risk of bruising.

    • On the day of your treatment ensure you’ve had a full/healthy meal and drink plenty of water to optimize the amount of PRP that is extracted as well as support the growth of new, healthy cell production.

    • Discontinue corticosteroids and steroid injections at least one month before treatment as this may interfere with the efficacy of the PRP.

  • The best way to maximize your results would be to maintain at least three treatments with a month in between each session, and pair it with the proper home care regimen. Our experts may advise the use of skincare products like ZO® Growth Factor Serum or ZO® Intense Eye Créme to maximize results!
