Revitalize Your Under-Eyes: The Power of PRP

May 16, 2024

Let’s start by acknowledging and embracing the era of clean girl aesthetics, where natural alternatives and minimalism are what it’s all about lately. Gone are the days of expressionlessness and pillow faces; now enhancing natural beauty has taken center stage!

Platelet-rich plasma treatment of the under-eye area has completely catapulted, as it’s desirable for the client looking for an alternative to hyaluronic acid filler. Whether it be due to genetics, lifestyle or the natural ageing process, the under-eye area is a top concern for many of our clients. Being a permanent night shift worker for years, I was developing dark under-eye circles that channelled Uncle Fester. But, this treatment has been a GAME-CHANGER and has completely transformed my under-eye area. Let's get into it!

What is PRP?

So, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is classified as a regenerative medicine that is widely used in sports medicine and dermatology. It contains growth factors and proteins that aid in tissue healing, skin rejuvenation and stimulate collagen production! To obtain PRP, a small blood sample is drawn from the client and spun in a centrifuge (a fancy spinning machine) where the PRP is separated from the rest of the blood - this is what we like to call your “liquid gold.” This is pretty easy peasy as most of our medical staff work in clinical settings, where they often draw blood like vampires 🧛. PRP is one of the safest treatments out there since it uses YOUR OWN cells, which makes it extremely low risk of adverse effects occurring.

A natural and safe way to enhance your under-eyes? Yes, please!

Who is a good candidate?

Because PRP is derived from the client’s own blood supply, virtually anyone is a good candidate! Some of the most common concerns under-eye PRP targets include: dark circles, puffiness, crepey skin and sunken hollows. So, if you’re struggling with any of these - I would definitely recommend PRP for under-eyes! Fun fact: PRP can also be used for hair loss restoration to stimulate new hair growth. Cosmetic Injector Injecting PRP in Under-Eye

What to Expect for Your Appointment

Prepare for your appointment by drinking at least 500 mLs of water and eating a full meal - also, please let us know if you are needle phobic. From start to finish, you can expect to be in the clinic for approximately 45 minutes. For most clients, the pain is minimal and tolerable!

We make two injection sites (one under each eye), so you’ll feel two small pokes, and then the PRP is fanned out with a blunt-end instrument called a cannula. If you’re concerned about pain, please let your injector know, as they have tools to make you feel as comfortable as possible! We do inject the plasma right into the under-eye area; therefore, you may look like you got stung by a bee or got into fisticuffs but this is NORMAL and EXPECTED. The swelling typically resolves between 24-48 hours and those growth factors get to work immediately. There’s no need to ice or massage the area after your appointment, just let the liquid gold do its magic!

What is the cost and timeline of treatments?

PRP treatments range from $420-$960 depending on the treatment area and the package you choose. We highly recommend doing a minimum series of 3 treatments approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimal results. Most people notice subtle enhancements after the first treatment, but they are totally obsessed after the full 3 treatments! Once you are satisfied with your results, we recommend treatments every 6 to 12 months for maintenance. If you have any questions about under-eye PRP, check out the FAQs on this page!

To sum it up, under-eye PRP is a fan favourite for good reason - it's safe, natural and has mega benefits. Being one of our most reasonably priced treatments and very little downtime, it is the perfect treatment to add to any regimen! If you’re interested in under-eye PRP at our Edmonton, Kelowna or St. Albert clinics, we’d love to see you for a complimentary consultation to get you started on your PRP journey!
